06 23 11: CNN/HLN Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectometry Issues in the Casey Anthony Trial.
With CNN host Mike Galanos, Attorney Keith Murray lays out Casey Anthony’s Defense’s issues with the “Smell of Death” testimony, detailing the issues with the specific chemical compounds tested, the Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectometry process and the pitfalls of scientific conclusion testimony concerning the GC/MS evidence. Attorney Murray also critiques the defense’s approach to the science in the case, how the State overcompensated on the testimony and the possible jury confusion with the issue.
Also, Attorney Murray explains in detail a procedural due process issue that resulted directly from the defense getting too much slack from Judge Perry in questioning a scientific expert outside his area of expertise, the state’s due process gaffe in potentially shifting the burden of proof to the defense and what it means to the case.

05-04-11: State of Florida v. Casey Anthony: Judge Perry’s Media Morass
Criminal Defense Attorney Keith Murray on the May 4, 2011, CNN/In Session program discussing the Casey Anthony trial. In this clip, Attorney Murray discusses Judge Perry’s decision and his lack of an evidentiary hearing showing any imminent danger or harm to jury selection by protesters and/or media scruitiny. Judge Perry, in an attempt at judicial activisim, tried to place a prior restraint on the media, forcing them to sign a confidentiality agreement in order to obtain advance notice of where jury selection for the trial was to take place. Those media outlets not signing the confidentiality agreement would find out the morning the first potential jurors were empaneled. Attorney Murray discusses the legal implications of Judge Perry’s actions and parses out the language of his Order.
04-01-11: State of Florida v. Casey Anthony; Frye Hearings
With CNN Anchor Christi Paul, Attorney Keith Murray discusses the Casey Anthony Frye Hearings concerning the admisibility of evidence concerning the “odor of death” in the truck of the Anthony car. Attorney Murray makes the distinction between scientific evidence under Frye and ‘opinion’ testimony, as well as relate possible defense theories refuting the evidence of chloroform in the trunk. Attorney Murray also educates on the forensic uses and applications of Gas Chromotography/Mass Spectometry.

03-24-11: State of Florida v. Casey Anthony; Frye Hearings.
CNN Anchor Vinnie Politan and Correspondant Jean Casarez discuss the “smell of death” and the testimony of Dr. Arpad Vass in the Casey Anthony trial. This clip contains the much reported exchange between Politan and Murray concerning Vaas’ statement that he ‘jumped back… two feet’ when he opened the air sample in question. Murray also lists numerous reasons why Vaas’ testimony does not satisfy the Frye Test and should be excluded from trial. Attorney Murray also further discusses evidence concerning the levels of chloroform detected in the trunk of the family car and possible attacks on this evidence by the defense.

Attorney Murray also discusses the cult mentality and cult-like practices utilized by Ray in conducting his programs, and the conditions in the sweatlodge that led to the deaths of three participants. Attorney Murray again parses out the statutory language of the Arizona manslaughter statute, including the reckless element and the unjustifiable risk element.

With CNN Anchor Ryan Smith, Attorney Keith Murray discusses evidence in the Casey Anthony trial, specifically the use of Gas Chromotography/Mass Spectometry and its forensic uses in idenfying unknown substances. The application in the Anthony trial is novel, concerning the testing of an air sample for a quantifiable decompositional order and concerning levels of chloroform detected in the sample. Attorney Murray also discusses discovery issues concerning the research and data underpinning the claim.
Attorney Murray also discusses the cadaver dog evidence, how the dogs are trained the difficulties of preventing such evidence at trial.

March 3, 2011: Forensic Science Lecture: Class Characteristics v. Individual Characteristics.
Attorney Keith Murray lectures on the differences between Class Characteristics, those characteristics that are common to a group of similar objects, and Individual Characteristics, those characteristics that distinguish items in a group from each other. Attorney Murray defines the concepts and describes the forensic science involved in making identifications in bullet matching and imprint evidence.
March 3, 2011: Forensic Science Lecture: Locard’s Theory and Fracture Matching
Attorney Keith Murray lectures on Locard’s Theory of Transference, which basically states that when two objects come into contact the leave something of themselves on each other. Attorney Murray describes the forensic science theory as it pertains to crime scenes and trace evidence. Also, Attorney Murray discusses fracture matching, the forensic science theory that pieces objects that are ripped or torn or broken can always be matched back to their corresponding piece. Attorney Murray highlights this issue with a particularly intersting forensic case study.
March 3, 2011: Forensic Science Lecture: Chain of Custody
Attorney Keith Murray discusses the legal issue of Chain of Custody and how it pertains particularly to forensic science, crime scene processing and introducing evidence at trial. Attorney Murray details the legal particulars of chain of custody concerns and the legal implications for the offering party if the chain of custody is broken.
